my solving techniques

are steered by knowledge of the classification.

- If a puzzle is "very hard",

I assume I'll reach a point where a wing will be needed,

 - and conversely if it is "hard"

I'll be confident that I won't reach such a point.

the following puzzle only needs "basic" moves

would you classify it "hard" ?

1.......2.3.4..5....2....6..5.31.......7.8..4....95....7....4....6....8.9...2...6

				| I needed two triples to solve this puzzle. I would consider it Hard. Hard to me are puzzles requiring triples or quads but using only basic moves. |

using only "basic" moves, i needed a total of 8 moves

this may explain the "VH" grade

An x-wing is often easier than a triple to spot and preferable. This does not change the rating of the puzzle. If it can be solved with locked sets and locked cells and contains a triple or quad it is classified as hard in my mind.

Sometimes I can spot an x-wing easier than a naked single. This doesn't make an "easy" puzzle "very hard" |
