There are people here who know a lot more about this than I do, but yes, it's possible to have two answers. However, most published puzzles have one unique solution, so it's possible that even though you had a correct solution per Sudoku rules, you didn't have the answer the puzzle constructor had in mind.

Is it possible to have two correct answers to a puzzle?
    two answers,
    or more,
    surely possible
    but hardly desirable.

could you please tell us which book this is?
and post the puzzle as printed?

        thanks!

I, too, had an answer that was different than the published solution with a sudoku puzzle from"Super Sudoku Puzzles" Vol 10 published by Kappa. Since I have never heard of this happening before, I was wondering if I can post the unsolved puzzle, my solution and the published solution. If this is permissible, what is the best way to do this? Is it possible to post images?[/img]

Yes, you can post images. You can also post a grid. I wrote an article on how to post a properly aligned grid, here:

P.S. Does the introduction to your book say anything about unique solutions?

I found the reason why they were different. I had written out a duplicate of the puzzle after the first was wrong. One the duplicate, I forgot to include one of the printed numbers. It is very interesting how the absence of one number can allow for a totally different working answer... essentially one number juxtaposed between two boxes.

Thanks for your response! I see how to place a grid in a non HTML format, thanks to your posting.
