this is one of those days in the vanhegan life where the VH was more difficult, seemingly, than the fiendish (which is solvable with one skyscraper).

anyone else try this one? |

				Sudoku Susser:

  8 x Comprehensive Forcing Chains

  4 x Simple Forcing Chains

  1 x XY-Wing

  1 x Swordfish

  3 x Intersection Removal

  1 x Simple Naked Sets

  14 x Pinned Squares

Only about three of the chains are reasonable: Extended XY-wings, etc.

ok, so coloring on 3 removes 3 from r7c1 and the adjoining w-wing on {3,9} removes the 9 from r2c9

doesn't help much, but from first glance that is what was available.

then on 7... r4c9 = r5c7 - r5c3 = r6c2 - r23c2 = r3c3; r3c9 <> 7 |

				A 4-cell chain 35 - 56 - 67 - 37 takes out <3> in R3C9.

A W-wing <39> takes out <9> in R2C9.

An extended XY-wing 37 -37 -37 - 67 - 36 takes out <3> in R7C1.

Skyscraper takes out <7> in R3C9.

sorry keith I guess we weren't simulcasting

this is your grid and has a coloring move on 7, that eliminates 7 from r3c9

Right, which I edited in my previous message, and is pointed out in your other message. Now, what?

(Time to look for those things we used to use and forgot: Like, finned XY-wings.)

so this is where we are, I Like to look for w-wings or m-wings that can be extended, or maybe mix them up a bit. |

for example that w-wing {3,9} can be extended via the 8 in r3c9.

8 true r3c9,

8 not true r3c3

8 true r1c3

4 not true r1c3

4 true r1c2, means that 9 is eliminated from r1c2.

because either the 9 is true in r2c1 or the 4 is true in r1c2 either way the 9 in r1c2 is not true. |

				Four-Stepper: Empty Rectangle, 2x XY-Chain, and XYZ-Wing.

from my last posted position, this nifty chain finishes it.

(4=3)r1c2 - (3=9)r1c8 - (9=8)r3c9 - (8)r3c1 = (8)r1c3; r1c3 <> 4

basically it says that either the 4 in r1c2 is true or if not true, follow the chain around and the 8 in r1c3 is true. in either case, the 4 in r1c3 can't exist. |
