This one provides a good example of how Helmut's Sudoku Helper works.

Code:

+-----------+-----------+-----------+
|  .  .  .  |  .  .  5  |  3  2  7  |
|  3  .  4  |  .  9  .  |  .  .  1  |
|  .  .  .  |  .  .  .  |  .  .  .  |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+
|  4  .  1  |  .  .  3  |  .  .  .  |
|  9  .  5  |  .  7  .  |  8  .  3  |
|  .  .  .  |  2  .  .  |  5  .  6  |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+
|  .  .  .  |  .  .  .  |  .  .  .  |
|  6  .  .  |  .  3  .  |  2  .  5  |
|  8  4  2  |  5  .  .  |  .  .  .  |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+

Daily Sudoku will not display the link correctly, so here it is:

Click on "HSH" and then "Do It!" to go to the helper.

(Or, click on "Play" and "Do It!" to come to DS Draw/Solve.)

Sorry if I messed up, but working with intermediate grids gets me confused. I can't say I have a better understanding of how the Sudoku Helper works, but I do have an attempt at a solution.

Code:

| 3 58   4   | 7   9   2    | 6   58  1  |
| 2 578  678 | 3   168 16   | 49  589 48 |

Marty,
Code:
+------------+--------------+------------+
| 1 89   689 |A46 -468 5    | 3   2   7  |
| 3 58   4   | 7   9   2    | 6   58  1  |
| 2 578  678 | 3   168 16   | 49  589 48 |
+------------+--------------+------------+
| 4 6    1   | 8   5   3    | 79  79  2  |
| 9 2    5   |B146 7  C146  | 8   14  3  |
| 7 38   38  | 2   14  9    | 5   14  6  |
+------------+--------------+------------+
| 5 1379 379 | 19  2   178  | 147 6   48 |
| 6 179  79  |1-49 3  D1478 | 2   78  5  |
| 8 4    2   | 5   16  167  | 17  3   9  |
+------------+--------------+------------+

There is an M-wing -46 that solves it. (If A is 6 C is 6. A and D are pincers on 4. HSH points this out in plain language.

You need to automate basics and then look at Advanced Moves.

Yes, basics are a problem.

Especially since Helmut's basics are often not so basic! Smile
