I usually play the daily sudoku (except when it's easy) and I invariably have to resort to getting a hint.

This hint comes up occasionally and it's of no help to me in trying to improve my solving capability. Nearly always after getting the hint, the puzzle is easily solved.

I think I've asked this question before and didn't receive an answer.

On another forum it was suggested that the program is just using brute force to provide the hint and it that's the case, I'm on a road to nowhere.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Allen,

I believe Draw/Play will just tell you the next cell to be solved, and not why.

You might try Helmut's Sudoku Helper:

In Draw/Play, click "Ascii". In the resulting popup window, copy the puzzle like this:
Code:
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 4 | . . 6 | . 8 9 |
| . . . | . . . | 1 6 . |
| 6 . . | 4 2 . | . . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . 9 | 2 8 . | . 7 . |
| . . 3 | . . . | 5 . . |
| . 6 . | . 9 5 | 8 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . 5 2 | . . 8 |
| . 5 7 | . . . | . . . |
| 9 3 . | 6 . . | 4 . . |
+-------+-------+-------+

Go to the Formatter: http://sudoku.saueregger.at/HSH/HSF.htm

Paste the puzzle in the right hand pane and click "Do it !" The puzzle should load. Click "HSH" and "Do it !".

You are now in the Helper. "Step by step" is already selected. Click "Do it !" and you will get a list of possible moves.

Click on a move in the list, and it will be explained. Click "Do it !" and the move will be made.
